A popped tire on a vehicle.

are ring-shaped vehicle components that cover the wheel's rim to protect it and enable better vehicle performance. Most tires, such as those for automobiles and bicycles, provide traction between the vehicle and the road while providing a flexible cushion that absorbs shock.

Tires are present on every Vehicle in Shattered. Using the bullet power, James Derettas can shoot tires on a vehicle and pop them. Vehicles with popped tires can still move, but they become noticeably harder to control due to the lack of friction. This is a good strategy when trying to take down a vehicle: aim for the tires if you can't take down the vehicle or driver easily.

After the Life With Powers DLC, tires are customizable. The player can do the following at a Mechanic:

Name In-Game Description Cost
Tire Color Colors your tires a specific color. 100XP
Bulletproof Tires Makes your tires bulletproof. 350XP
Tire Smoke Adds tire smoke. A specific color costs 400XP. 400XP

  • The tougher or bigger a vehicle is, the more hits it will take to pop the tire. For example, tires on a sports car or taxi take only one direct bullet hit to pop, whereas armored cars, vans and bigger trucks take 3-5 hits.
  • Before rubber was developed, the first versions of tires were simply bands of metal that fit around wooden wheels to prevent wear and tear. Early rubber tires were solid, not pneumatic.
