The VX-308 File Eraser is a device built by Edward Catalano.
History[]
Pre-Shattered[]
Edward Catalano was a young college student when he was framed for murder, even though it wasn't him. Edward, a technology whiz, built the VX-308 File Eraser, which, when connected to a D4zX6d Processor, it hacked itself into the government database and could erase certain files.
Edward used this to erase the files that accused him of murder, but realized there was vulnerability. The device was too powerful, and each time it was used it made the internet database weaker. If he kept using it, eventually the entire internet database would collapse and they would trace it all back to the File Eraser, and Edward would be in some serious trouble.
Events of Shattered[]
During the events of Shattered, Joey Dmitri traced a signal back to Edward, who, after the events of the File Eraser, went into hiding in an old house in Janson County, Zenwood. James traced the signal back to this house and captured Edward. James brought Edward back to his apartment and interrogated him. There, he learned about the VX-308 File Eraser's past, and that Erik Baying drugged him to get his hands on the device, for his plan to wipe Interface City off the map and rule it forever. A man named Richard Teasle created the drug. Erik was unsuccessful in his attempts.
Shattered 2[]
After the events of Shattered, but before the events of Shattered 2, James kept the File Eraser and stored it in his apartment. However, when James was gone, Father Time infiltrated his apartment and stole the File Eraser for himself. Father Time found The_Underscore's old lair and restored it for his use. There, he attempted to use it to wipe his criminal record from all databases, but it failed and the device exploded. This was seen in the post-credits scene of Shattered.
After Father Time was defeated in Shattered 2, it was found out by James that Father Time was building a replica File Eraser in his lair under Logan Island, but this replica was never completed, and thus never worked. The replica was spotted by James when he infiltrated the lair, but its purpose was unknown until Father Time told him about it when James defeated him.

The File Eraser is a big black box with blue wires running through it, and computer ports and buttons on the sides.
